Why am I always Tired?

Updated: Sep 3, 2022

Feeling tired lately? 💤

Feeling tired all the time is not something to just ignore. It is commonly a sign that something is out of balance so it’s worth thinking about what this might be and getting some tests done.

Nutrient Deficiencies

Iron, B12 and B group vitamins can cause fatigue as they are required for energy production. Full serum iron studies including B12 and folate should be assessed. Keep in mind if your Iron is on the lower end but still within the average ranges, you may still be experiencing symptoms of fatigue from low Iron or B12.

Thyroid Issues

An under-active thyroid can cause fatigue along with dry skin, hair loss and depression. A full thyroid panel is recommended to evaluate thyroid function.

Gut Issues

Your gut plays a huge role in your health and gut conditions such as leaky gut, SIBO, SIFO and dysbiosis can all cause nutrient deficiencies, leading to fatigue, along with many other symptoms. Cortisol Depletion and HPA axis Dysregulation

Chronic long-term stress can cause cortisol depletion that can lead to fatigue. Other symptoms can include salt cravings, low libido and sudden weight loss. look at supporting your adrenals through adaptogenic herbs and nutritive foods. You can get your cortisol tested through a salivary cortisol test. A dysregulated hypothalamic pituitary adrenal (HPA) axis due to chronic stress and lack of sleep can further contribute to fatigue.

Hormone Imbalance

Hormone imbalances may be another reason for your fatigue. If you are experiencing PMS, headaches, irregular cycles, breast tenderness, heavy menstruation or cyclical acne, this may suggest you have a hormonal imbalance. Focusing on supporting hormone balance can improve energy levels.

Heavy toxin exposure/Sluggish detoxification pathways

Toxin exposure is another contributing factor to fatigue. If you have high levels of toxin exposure and within your body, this will put increased pressure on your liver (your main detoxification organ). Toxins can increase inflammation and wreak havoc on your gut, hormones, endocrine system and impact energy and metabolic pathways. To support detoxification, read this post here .
